Registration
at Kooch-i-ching is open to any young man of sound character who is in
his eighth to eighteenth year, without regard to his religious
conviction or ethnic background. There are no prerequisites and there
is no such thing as a typical Kooch camper. They come in all shapes and
sizes, from a wide variety of backgrounds and traditions and with a
full spectrum of interests, abilities and experience. Some are athletes
and some are not, some are outdoorsmen and some have never spent so
much as a single night in a tent. Some are outgoing and some are shy.
Some are very self-assured and some are hesitant. While some come to
Kooch knowing they will love it, others begin the summer far less
certain that Kooch-i-ching is right for them. Experience suggests that
there are three personal qualities that seem to make success at Kooch
more likely. Those qualities are a liking for people, a readiness to
try new things and a willingness to do one's share.
Kooch-i-ching
has space for 130-135 regular session (8 or 4-week, and now 3-week for
Preps) campers during each of its two sessions. We have an "acceptance
policy" which insures that veteran campers, their brothers and boys who
were wait-listed in a given year will have the first chance to secure a
place at Kooch in the following year. We then open enrollment to all on
a first come, first served basis.
